GRPB COMMUNITY
PROJECTS

Since 2012, GRPB has been challenging and involving thousands women and men in Penang, making decisions that affect their lives, while at the same time extending opportunities to build leadership and skills across communities. The EIGHT (8) history making communities are from:

 

  • PPR Jalan Sungai, Sungai Pinang
  • PPR Ampangan, Ampang Jajar
  • Kampung Sungai Chenaam
  • Taman Tambun Indah
  • Taman Teluk Indah
  • Taman Sri Pinang
  • Machang Bubuk Participatory Project ’Our Money, Our Say’

GRPB PUBLIC
FACILITY PROJECTS

With tangible successes obtained at the community level, PWDC in partnership with both Penang Island City Council (MBPP) and Seberang Perai Municipal Council (MPSP) are confident in taking the Gender Responsive and Participatory Budgeting (GRPB) to another level. Since 2015, GRPB methodology has been incorporated into the public facility projects. The FOUR (4) projects involved are:

 

  • Taman Kenari Neighbourhood Park, Sungai Ara
  • Taman Tunku, Seberang Jaya
  • Taman Tun Sardon, Gelugor
  • Campbell Street Market, Georgetown

WAY FORWARD

Now in 2016, Gender Responsive and Participatory Budgeting (GRPB) Programme will continue to support both Local Authority to commit to the 3-Year Strategic Action Plan (SAP: 2016 – 2018) which sets out steps for the institutionalisation of GRPB into local governments’ policies and programmes by 2018. The SAP contains THREE (3) key thrust areas:

 

  • To develop the structure and mechanism to integrate GRPB in Penang Island City Council (MBPP) and Seberang Perai Municipal Council (MPSP) policies and programmes.
  • To integrate GRPB in Budget Cycle.
  • To build the capacity on gender issues and GRPB tools.
